Well Plant ~ Product and Presentation

1. Our 4th Quarter Project was the Weli plant. The idea of the Weli plant stemmed from wanting to be left alone or the problem people face of being unsafe or annoyed. The plant is supposed to scare away people so the owner can be left in peace and quiet. We created a website, graphics, animations, and a commercial (video) to go with our product. The company name we decided on was Utilis because of or helpful and useful products. I am happy with our final product and presentation although I do feel we could have done better but I was still happy with what we were able to do. The presentation took a couple minutes in total maybe 5-6 including questions and I thought it was a success and everyone did their parts very well. I don't think there were very many struggles if any present during our presentation so I am happy about that.
This was our Utilis and Weli Plant logos!
The first part of the product we created was the graphic design portion of our product. This portion probably was the least stressful and took the least amount of time. I created the logo for both the company and product. The other graphics were created by the other team members like our ads and banners. We had plenty of good ideas for our logos which was helpful and sometimes we couldn't express exactly what we wanted into our logos because of our lack of skill in Illustrator or other things. In the end we created designs that we were really happy with.
This was one of our other logos
that we used on some of our creations
but it's not our official logo.
The next part of our project was the animation and this was probably the most challenging part of our project. It took a long time to make our SketchUp 3d animations and not so long to create our 2d animations. We were all happy with our 2d animations and originally there were two different 2d animations as well. During the video portion of our project we learned some of the animations were not saved correctly and we were not able to use them. This came with little time left before our presentations and we still needed to finish our videos so we decided to focus on those first. Next time I think we should look out for things like this before we get too far into the project and realizing that we may have to recreate something. Other than that the animations were probably the part of the project that I am least proud of and I think we could have done a lot better.

The last parts of our project were the video portion. The video part of our project was very interesting and was probably the most enjoyable part of our project to create. We created scripts and thought everything through only to realize we would only be able to use about a four lines of our script in order to make it fit into our timeframe. Because of this one of our team members Grace decided to make another video with some of the other ideas from our previous script. The editing portion of the video project was very interesting and for me personally I enjoyed the video that I created. We had a great video in mind to use during our presentation made by Grace but opted to use one of Jaidyn's videos because it showed a lot more variety in the content and some of the other videos were somewhat repetitive. I did have some troubles in my editing process with the sounds but once we got it all figured out it was good and I was happy with my final video as well as everyone else video they created.
Lastly, was the website portion of our product and this was what we presented to the class in the end and I thought we did very well in this. Obviously looking at other peoples websites during the presentation I feel we could have done better but I am still proud of my group for working together and getting this whole thing done. The website was done throughout the entirety of the project on the side when we had a chance during our graphics, animation, and video portions. We also had the chance to work on it a lot during the week before the presentations. There were definitely many challenges that we faced during the creation of the website and mostly were due to the fact that most of us were not very good at web design or at least Jaidyn and I who were working on the website portion. We followed the directions and watched the videos yet somehow still struggled a lot and in the end we were able to create a website and we are happy about that but it could have definitely been a lot better.

2. Our group completed pretty much everything during class time except for out scripts for our videos, some of our graphic design sketches and we also took some time to go in and finish our video when we felt like we needed to change some things before our presentations. I'm going to be honest for me personally I don't believe I used some of my free time that productively but other members of my team used that time to create scripts and most of the time when I was finished with the assigned portion I was trying to figure out how to work the website and adding things onto it.  We all critiqued each other and gave our opinions which I appreciated and we critiqued our own portions as well and went back to try and improve them especially after seeing the first groups presenting which we thought had amazing projects and presentations. Outside of school I try and write or draw as much as I can. I'm not sure if that counts as trying to improve or enhance my projects. I also try and research some web design things and researching some of the software that we use in class. Hopefully, this will help when it comes to my future projects.

3. Some of my areas of strength I definitely feel are graphic design and sketching/ coming up with ideas. I maximize these strengths by practicing them whenever I can possible and using my creativity.

4. Some areas of improvement I definitely feel are necessary could be my knowledge of some of the software that we use for e-Comm. Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, are all software that I feel I need to improve my knowledge of in order to make better in the future.

5. This quarter I really enjoyed working with my team to think creatively and coming up with our product and our marketing ideas. I loved creating the commercial and doing the sketches for our designs. Next time I feel like I would've worked a lot harder on my projects although I did work hard on this one I feel like I could have done better. Some take-away's I gained from this project could be my knowledge of software or my added ability to work as a team. I feel the team aspect was good and I liked the skills I learned from it. Next year I want to do bigger and better projects and maybe submit something to e-Magine by myself or with one of my friends.
